In the spring I did a review for a product called Picasso Hair Feathers. I love the hair feathers I received and wear them all the time. A few weeks ago, I was contacted by the owner Kate, and she informed me that they had a new product – Style Stands. This new product is similar to the hair feathers except these are extensions in a variety of fun and yet more natural colours.
These strands give women the opportunity to add some pizzazz to your hair without the damage than can accompany dying. Plus the colour never fades and you can change it up whenever you want!
Kate asked if I would be willing to try these new extensions and of course I jumped at the chance! I am usually a ponytail or messy bun kind of girl but I love trying out new hair accessories. I selected the Peach coloured strands to try and a few days later I received my set of 6.
Design
I absolutely LOVE the concept behind Style Strands. The highlights are secured in place using your own hair! No messy glues or complicated applications. They are easy to use and come in a selection of natural and fun colours so you can customize your look. You can also buy these strands in different size packs – 6, 15, 30 pieces – so you can have as little or as much colour as you want.
There are 10 different colours for you to choose from
To use your Style Strands all you need is a brush or comb, your strands (of course!), and a pair of pliers.
Determine where you would like to place your strand and take a section of hair no thicker than the width of the extension.
Place your hair through the plastic loop.
Use the end piece to pull your natural hair through the metal ring on the extension.
Pull your hair through about 1/4 of the length down from the root.
Then slide the ring up to the scalp before securing it. I’ve found the extra bit of frizz and slightly thicken section hair mean the extension stays in place better
Use the pliers to squeeze the ring around your hair and secure the strand in place.
Continue until you are done!
If you don’t like the position simply squeeze the metal ring in the opposite direction to reshape it back into a ring and slide your hair out. Then re-insert the application loop through the ring.
Style Strands come in a resealable plastic bag that you can store the application loops in when the strands are in your hair, and you can put the strands themselves in as well when not in use.
The strands that come are a standard long length (18 inches) but if you hair is shorter you can do like I did and use a pair of scissors to trim them up.
Durability
The Style Strands are easy to apply, remove and reapply without damage. They can be worn for days or weeks at a time and can be styled and washed just like regular hair. The only thing I have not tried is heat styling them (eg. hair straightener) but it is safe to do. These extensions are made of 100% Human Remy hair so you take care of them just like you would your own hair!
The first time I used these I had them in for about 3 days before they started to slide a bit. And when I say a bit, I really just mean a bit. I had a strand behind each of my ears and it felt like they began to pull on the other hair. Otherwise the other pieces all stayed in place really well.
I’ve re-shaped the attachment rings several times in my efforts to get my look just right and there was no damage at all. The only issue I had was one of the application loops snapped on me while I was trying to pull my hair through. I blame that one on myself though, you only need a little bit of hair and I was trying to force through to thick of a piece.
Does It Work?
Of course they do! These strands are perfect for the women who loves to change up her hair or if you just want to try a new look a few days. Also a great idea for young girls who want highlights but just aren’t quite old enough to start using hair dyes.
I actually had my strands in at a family function last weekend and everyone commented on how natural and funky they look!
They only issues I have with these is that the individual strands can become a bit frizzy I guess you would say. When they are stored (not bound up like when they come) they can get pretty easily tangled. Another small thing was if I braided my hair or had it tied back, the strands would hold the kinked up shape until I washed my hair. Not a big issue at all.

As I mentioned above, Style Strands come in 3 different sizes. The 6 pack costs $19.95, the 15 pack costs $38.95 and the 30 pack costs $69.95. Considering it costs any between $40 and $100 to have foils or highlights but in your hair, these are a good bargain. Especially when you consider the fact that Style Strands are so versatile! I’m not so sure I would want 30 of them all in at once or all in the same colour, but that is why the smaller packs are great. Get a few packs in different colours and change it up or mix and match to suit your mood.
