Welcome to the first in what hopes to be a long series of reviews here on SaveaLoonie.com! Our reviews are going to focus on the 4 D’s – Durability, Design, Does it Work? and Dollar Value.
Our very first review is being sponsored by Tamara from KitchenJukeBox.com! KitchenJukeBox is an online store that features fun and funky baking and kitchen tools. You can also find Edible Decorations and flavourings for all your baking needs!
I’m going to start by talking about the oh-so-adorable Lunch Punch Sandwich Cutters! These handy cutters make lunch fun again! I was lucky enough to receive the Sand*wishes collection. It came with 4 Cutters – Princess, Frog, Flower and Crown. The crown and the flower are less intricate designs and create big cut out designs and the frog and princess cutters do cut outs but leave imprints in the bread as well to give them some more character.
To give the Lunch Punch a thorough review I decided to make everyone’s favourite sandwich – Peanut Butter & Jam!
The directions state that the Lunch Punch works best on fresh bread. I didn’t have any handy the first time I tried these. I used multigrain bread that had been frozen and thawed. It didn’t work out so well. But then again, the directions did warn me of that. So to be fair I decided to try it again with some fresh white bread. It was a much greater success 🙂
I’m just a little kid at heart so I love these cutters. They take a boring sandwich and make it fun. Plus they do an ever so perfect job of removing the crust from the bread – I know, I should eat my crust!
Let me show you how they work.
[tabs]
[tab title=”Step One”] Start by preparing your Sandwich as you normally would. As mentioned before, this works best on fresh bread! Now place the cutter directly on top of your sandwich. Try to center it for the best effect.
[/tab]
[tab title=”Step Two”] Using two hands press down firmly on the cutter until it passes all the way through the bread. It does not take much force to get the cutter through. This step works best if you do it on a flat surface such as a counter top or cutting board.
Once you are all the way through, lightly brace the edge of the sandwich and twist the cutter back and forth (gently) a few times.
This step worked pretty seamless with the Princess Crown cutter however, the Frog Prince’s crown became a little smooshed. This may have to do with the texture being PB & J. I would wager a guess that if you used lunch meat you would have a little more success.
[/tab]
[tab title=”Step Three”] Once you have cut all the way through your sandwich you can pop off the crust and remove the sandwich from the cutter. This takes a little bit of skill to do right. If you aren’t careful popping out your character you could very easily tear a part off!
[/tab]
[tab title=”Step Four”]This is the best part 🙂 Enjoying your fun, tasty sandwich!

Now that you’ve seen how they work it’s time to review the 4 D’s!
Durability
These cutters are made of a strong plastic. They seem fairly durable however depending on how full your drawers are it may chip or crack. If they were made of metal they would be indestructible! Another note on durability, nowhere on the packaging or on the Lunch Punch website does it mention if this product is dishwasher safe. For a busy mom on the go, this could be important information!
Does it Work?
Yes it does! With a little practice you can quickly become a pro at using the Lunch Punch. The unfortunate thing is, if your bread isn’t perfect and depending on the contents of your sandwich, your results may not come out as well as hoped.
Design
The Lunch Punch cutters are designed to be kid-friendly. They are a great way to get your kids involved in making lunch! The colours are bright and easy to find in your drawer. The intricate patterns make for awesome designs in your bread but can make for a little more difficulty in cleaning. Trying to get the peanut butter out of the small holes and grooves took a little bit of work.
Dollar Value
I don’t know about you but I LOVE kitchen gadgets. Anything that can make cooking and food be fun is alright in my books. The cost of these is a little high but if your kids have issues with eating sandwiches this might just be the cure. Also a great idea for a gift! These Lunch Punch Cutters retail on KitchenJukeBox.com for $17.99 but are currently on sale for $15.99.
Other than the few small points I mentioned, I loved these! There are so many other things from KitchenJukeBox.com that I want to try! And with this great offer I think I just may!
