We’ve been running SaveaLoonie for a little over 5 years now. In that time, we’ve come to understand that every year, around the same time, the same types of promotions happen.
Promotions tend to be focused around the seasons and with the transition from Summer to Fall, we’ve come to expect certain sales – namely the Walmart Anniversary Sale.
This sale is one of Walmart’s biggest of the year, it compares closely to Black Friday and Boxing Day. In complete honesty, I’ve actually noticed the last couple of years, the Anniversary Sale had BETTER deals than Black Friday.
This is the week that SHOULD be Anniversary Sale week. So, it’s no surprise that when the highly anticipated sneak peek flyer never surfaced last week, people started to ask questions.
It seems by the response on the Walmart Canada Facebook Page, that Walmart has quietly chosen to NOT do the Anniversary Sale this year. Instead, they have “lowered prices on over 1000 items!”. Some of these items are featured in this week’s flyer.
I’ve got to say, I’m not really happy about it. I use this sale week to get a head start on my Christmas shopping and this year, their deals just don’t cut it.
The sad thing is, I think this is a trend. Over the last year or so, I’ve noticed many of the sales, giveaways & offers we’ve come to expect never happened. Will these things be back next year, or are they gone for good? I guess only time will tell.
However, I have to admit, I’m pretty disappointed in Walmart’s decision to cut their Anniversary Sale. What are your thoughts? Share with us on Facebook!
