It’s been a while coming and a slow going process but I’ve just finished reorganizing and re-inventorying our entire stock pile. Many things have come and gone since our last update including some new shelving units 😀 Things were just looking to jumbled and unorganized and I’m a bit of a Type A personality so this just wouldn’t do. Not to mention the fact that in our previous arrangement, all of our food storage was directly in front of a window – no good with summer around the corner.
Our stockpile has changed drastically since we were able to start. It started out on a single shelving unit and has evolved into the finance saving beauty that it is! Our friends and family can’t get enough of it! No one ever comes to visit and leaves empty handed or vice versa, we never go to visit without bringing a “goody bag”. I get asked a lot if we are really going to use all of what we buy and I always give the same response. Nope. We help to support both sides of our families, friends, and neighbours and community with everything we get. It feels great to be able to help out the people that mean the most to us.

While doing the stock pile inventory I mentioned how I wish there was a more accessible way to keep track of everything. So Ryan went on Google Play for his Android cell phone and found a free application called “Out of Milk”. I LOVE this app! It has a built in To-Do list, Shopping List and Pantry List (aka Stock Pile list). The best part is, there is a bar code scanner in the program that allows you to scan the items you have and if the bar code is stored in the database the product is automatically added to your list. If the bar code isn’t recognized then you can manually enter it and it will be remembered for the next time. You can also edit each item and enter the quantity, cost and category for easy browsing of your inventory. There is also the option to pay for the advanced features of this app but hey, free works just fine for me!
