Instagram is quite possible one of the most popular mobile applications going. But a big change is on the horizon which directly impacts YOU – its users.
According to Instagram’s new Terms of Use, which officially begin on January 16, 2012, your pictures are no longer only your own. Although Instagram does not own your photos, they will now have access to all of your pictures and have the option to sell them to corporations with out asking your permission or providing compensation. You could be the next face of Walmart and have no idea until you see the billboard or commercial. And guess what, you get NOTHING for it!
Now for most of us this will never happen. Your pictures will never see a corporate office, however, the possible implications are huge. Instgram has stated that their intention is not to sell everyone’s photos but leave marketing & advertising options open.
Although this post really has nothing to do with coupons or frugality, we feel it is important to keep our users and their private pictures safe.
I know for myself, I will no longer be using Instagram. The risk just outweighs the reward.
