June 1, 2020

It’s that time of year again!

The weather is getting warm, the days are getting longer and we’ve had our unofficial kick-off to Summer – now it’s time for the switch from Winter Hydro Rates to Summer Hydro Rates!

Or should I say, normally we would be…

Due to the on-going global pandemic, Hydro One has implemented a flat rate fee for customers this summer.

What is the Hydro Rate in Ontario?

From June 1 – October 31, 2020, Ontario Hydro customers will pay a fixed COVID-19 rate of 12.8 cents per kilowatt hour.

This is slightly higher than the off-peak rate of 10.1 cents per killowatt hour but still significantly lower than the mid-peak and off-peak rates.

Since many people are home more, that results in an increase in hydro usage. And with a hot summer on the horizon, this should help greatly with keeping costs down when running AC or extra fans.

For the time being, Hydro Use charts & Time of Use pricing is irrelevant but it’s till go information to know.

Do you think Hydro One will return to Time of Use pricing or should we stay at a permanent flat rate?

Hydro Time of Use Charts

Knowing the rates & Time of Use Charts is SO important to helping save on your hydro bill! Doing high-energy tasks, such as running your washer / dryer / dishwasher / dehumidifier / furnace /  etc during On-Peak times will cost you DOUBLE what doing them during Off-Peak will. No body likes doing laundry – don’t let it COST YOU twice as much either!

Here are the Winter Hydro Rates & Time of Use Charts.

When in doubt, just remember, between 7PM and 7AM is always the most cost-effective time to run your appliances etc anytime of the year!

Please note – not all provinces follow Time Of Use Pricing for hydro.
