Ugh… I was SO hoping this wasn’t going to happen but it’s like Deja Vu..
The Globe and Mail is reporting that as of yesterday, August 25th, Canada Post workers union has given Canada Post a 72 notice of job action.
Back in July, Canada Post issued & withdrew its 72-hour notice one day before it was due to lockout the CUPW (Canadian Union of Postal Workers) members.
Now, there is a bit of good news.
CUPW listed it’s anticipated job actions in a letter to Canada Post, and walking off the job is not one of them. However, work to rule is an option.
The federal government has announced it will appoint a special mediator to help with further contract negotiations and avoid a work stoppage.
While both sides seem to be far apart on issues such as pay discrepancies between rural and urban mail-carriers and proposed changes to the pension plan, they both say they welcome the help of a mediator.
