You’re engaged – Congratulations! This is surely one of the happiest and most exciting times of your life!
There is so much to think about – the date, the dress, the rings, the cake, the guest list!
As the list grows, and more and more expenses add up you’re excitement may turn to shock and dismay about how much this is going to cost you.
Making a Wedding Budget is a crucial first step in the wedding planning process, but what if things just aren’t coming together for you. Money is tight (even with coupons!), unexpected expenses pop up and your funds dry up. Does your dream wedding seem just out of reach? Maybe it doesn’t have to be.
Have you considered Crowd-Sourcing or sponsorships? Some clever Canadian couples were recently interviewed by CBC News about their quests to have their weddings paid for without breaking the bank!
This growing trend is seeing eager brides & grooms-to-be posting pleas for cash donations on Crowdsourcing sites such as Sponsor My Event as well as approaching businesses to foot the bill for some big ticket items in exchange for some form of advertising during the event.
Some of the most popular items to approach sponsors for are the bride’s wedding dress, suit/tux rentals, cake, food and flowers. But you can also consider the DJ, decorator, invitations, rings, favours and so many others.
For many couples opting for crowd-sourcing and sponsorship, almost everything is fair game including ads on the grooms Tux and announcements during during, however most draw the line when it comes to placing ads on “The Dress”.
There are many critics out there that consider this trend to be “tacky” and “crass” but others just see it as the way of the future and a smart way to make their dream a reality.
What do you think about this? Would you consider a crowd-sourced or sponsored wedding? We’d love to hear what you think!
