I’m having horrible flash backs. I remember it like it was yesterday – the Postal Strike of 2011.
Do you remember? I do. It was back in the days of coupons & freebies being plentiful. We were just getting heavy into couponing & freebie hunting and SaveaLoonie was just a new site just getting started. It was then that we got hit!
Canada Post delivery workers went on strike! There was no mail delivery for weeks.
It. Was. Terrible. And it ended with a Return to Work order :/
And here we are 5 years later and it looks like we may be facing a similar fate!
It’s being reported that the Canadian Union of Postal Workers President is anticipating a lockout this July (not a strike by workers). There are some concessions that the Union just isn’t willing to move on, including Job Security and it’s said not a whole lot of progress is being made. The lockout would coincide with a recent Federal Government issued formal review of Canada Post’s operations.
Canada Post insists they are working towards resolution however they are beginning to warn their biggest customers about the impending July 2nd deadline.
So if you are expecting any deliveries, planning on sending any parcels or are working on some trades – I suggest you get it done sooner than later or risk your mail getting stuck in limbo!
Do you think a lockout is going to happen? Does it matter to you? Let’s discuss it on the SaveaLoonie Facebook Page!
