Why You Should Enter Contests

Why You Should Enter Contests

It’s not complicated, it’s not frustrating, it’s really not even that time consuming. So why don’t you do it? If you truly wish to embrace the couponing / frugal lifestyle, entering contests is something you should seriously consider doing! Here’s why!

You Can’t Win If You Don’t Enter

So many of us are guilty of this – we complain “why should I bother entering – I never will anything”. Well with that kind of attitude, what else do you expect! However, I do understand where you are coming from. I also used to be one of those types of people. Then I decided to turn my frown upside and try it out. And guess what – it worked! Over the last few months I have won a handful of contests! It took months of patients and many contests that I won nothing. There were a few times I almost gave up but if you enter enough contests you are bound to win something! Keep at it – a win will come your way soon enough!

The More You Enter The More You Win

It makes sense right? If you only enter one contest at a time it severely limits the likelihood that you will win something. There are hundreds of contests available all over the internet, in newspapers and magazines and in-stores. Enter every contest that you are eligible for. Just beware – don’t ever give your personal information out if you are not 100% comfortable with the source and you should never have to pay money to enter a contest. I especially like contests that you can enter every day! Some people say it’s too much work but I think it makes your odds better. If you are diligent and enter that contest every day then that means more chances for you to win!

There May Be More Prizes Than You Think

You may not realize it but many contests have multiple levels of prizes. You may only see big images and descriptions of the Grand Prize but chances are there are other prizes available to be won! Often times secondary prizes although not as grand, are more practical to everyday life!

You Could Hit It Big!

It’s wishful thinking and you should never base your life around the “what-ifs” but wouldn’t it be fantastic if one day you woke up and found out that you won $10,000 in a contest? I know so many of us could benefit from a prize like that! As I said above, if you don’t enter you will never win so it’s at least worth a shot right?

Extra Bonuses Just For Entering

Often times when you enter a contest there will be a coupon or sample offer involved along side of it. You may be offered the coupon when you enter or it may be sent to you via email or snail mail. These coupons are usually only available to those who enter the contest so even if you don’t win you can still save!

We have yet to win a big Grand Prize such as cash or a trip but between Ryan and I we have racked up some pretty decent prizes! Here are the ones I can think of in the last couple of years:

  1. I do enter to most of the contests but hardly every win anything 🙁

  2. I have won several great prizes.

In 2008, Subway Restaurants had the “Greatest Contest Ever,” and you would enter a code that you had to peel off your drink (so you had to get the combo). Honestly, I only entered twice during that contest and won the grand prize, which was a brand new Nissan Versa. I think they only gave out 10 in Ontario.

This year I have won some great prizes as well. I won a 1-year gym membership to GoodLife, and a Motorola Razr Droid!

It is true, you cannot say that you don’t win anything if you do not enter 🙂

  3. The last contest I won was with Coca-cola. It was their online contest where you entered your PIN code from a coke bottle and then shook a snow globe to see what you won. Amazingly I actually won a Nintendo Wii. I was so excited! I got all the paper work done and was ready to send it in the mail. Funnily enough…and kind of sad, I completely spaced on sending out the forms. I guess something came up, I can’t quite remember what, but it made me miss out on my prize. I guess I can consider this the contest I won and the prize I never received. I have now been entering daily on TodaysDraw hoping I would get a gift card one day. Have been entering for ages and haven’t won anything yet.
I believe the only contest I entered that I actually received the prize was when I was a young kid. It was a coloring contest at the local grocery store. I colored the picture of Tony the Tiger and submitted it. A few weeks later I won a Raleigh Tracker bicycle. That was so cool.

Never hurts to enter a contest. You never know, you might win something.

  4. I was lucky enough to be one of the Europe’s Best grand prize winners!! besides that, haven’t really won anything before.. it was exciting that’s for sure!!

  5. I’ve won 12 days of Zellers , 7dvds over the pass 2years.two movie passes…so far not bad eh

  6. I won the hbc grand prize at a baby show a few years ago. Recently I won a roku

  7. I try so many times to win and I have not win anything . sometimes the contest are for America and not Canada. so how do you win if the America are winning too. you should show it for Canada or Canada then I know when to do it. nothing against the america but I wish I could win something

  8. I recently won a prize from Silk and tickets for a children’s play. I was kinda surprised as I have never won anything ever.

  9. I haven’t won anything yet, but I keep trying…;)

  10. I haven’t not win anything. I hope someday I will!!

  11. always entering never seem to win

  12. I enter contests every day, and use Roboform to do my form filling, which saves a lot of typing. I noticed last year that I was missing out on a lot of the Christmas giveaways going on, so this year I used 3-4 contest sites to keep track of them (a lot of them on Facebook, as well as Savealoonie and Contestgirl).

I spent up to 2 hours a day entering Christmas contests from the end of November to end of December. And at first I was starting to wonder if it was worth it, as I wasn’t winning. But then the prize notifications started to trickle in. In the end I won nearly $2000 worth of stuff, including: An XBox One, an Apple iPhone, a $50 Cdn Tire gc, a KitchenAid blender, Denizen jeans, a Clarins lipstick, and prizes for my little nieces.

So putting in the effort is worth it. I also won a Las Vegas trip for 4 in 2012 (a daily Hershey and NHL contest). But I do go through periods (sometimes months) without a win. You just need to be persistent.

I used to avoid contests that were open to the US and Canada (as I figured I had much less chance of winning), but this year I’ve won a Logitech Facebook contest (iPad Keyboard Folio and $500 Visa card), a Michael Kors tote from Ebay.com, and a custom Strada bike from a Facebook Hotel contest. So it is worth entering contests that are open to both countries. These were all single entry contests.
